The Entomological Society of Stuttgart, founded in 1869 is one of the oldest entomological societies in the German-speaking world. Founded on 16 November 1869 in Stuttgart, the association has a long tradition of promoting the study of insects and fostering collaboration between professional scientists and amateur naturalists. Since its early years, the society has maintained a close connection with the State Museum of Natural History Stuttgart, where it is still based today. With several hundred members interested in different insect groups the society plays an important role in documenting and studying insect diversity, particularly in southwestern Germany.
The mission of the society is to promote entomological research, expand knowledge of insects and biodiversity, and support nature and habitat conservation through scientific work and public engagement. It achieves these goals by organizing meetings, scientific events, field excursions, and specialist workshops, as well as by publishing research in its journal Mitteilungen des Entomologischen Vereins Stuttgart. Looking toward the future, the association aims to strengthen collaboration between citizen scientists and professional researchers, contribute to the understanding of regional insect fauna, and raise public awareness about the ecological importance of insects and the need to protect their habitats.
